Sax on Sunday: Burden of Paradise Trio
One of the great forces in ‘90s pop culture is bringing music to the people —saxophonist Snake Davis put the icing on the cake for Take That’s A Million Love Songs, M People’s Search For The Hero and a host of other hits. And with his band The Burden of Paradise, he’s returning to Ropery Hall.
Breathtaking skill, warm co-operation and witty anarchic banter. Burden Of Paradise invites its audience into a world of tenderness, virtuosity and human frailty. No drums. Just voice, saxophone and double bass. BoP’s unique interpretations of evocative songs from Dylan to Dowland are spell-binding.
Helen Watson sings like an angel, and Snake Davis’s saxophone has played a key role for a huge number of bands from M People to Eurythmics.
Singer Helen Watson also has a luminary history, having recorded two albums with legendary producer Glyn Johns, which featured members of The Eagles, Little Feat and Andy Fairweather-Low. The band is completed by double bassist Dave Bowie Jr, who plays with the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain.
It’s jazz for people who don’t like jazz!
